Hiding/disabling services.

HMS Surprise

I called the Sprint support folks because my air card was
disconnecting and not reconnecting even though it was in NDIS mode.
Finally their tech support people got involved and suggested that I do
the following.

Run msconfig. Hide all MS services.
Disable all.
Apply.
Restart.
Run msconfig.
Enable all.
Restart.

The connection manager is auto starting. What effect will temporarily
disabling services have?

Thanks,

jh

it looks like they only
had you disable non microsoft
services. this affect would be
similar to booting in safemode.

laptops are a bit odd and
they tend to have specialized
services.

however, the fact that they
want you to enable "all"
the services afterwards may
be faulty.

i think they likely mean for
you to enable all non microsoft
services, which should not be
to many of them...

The effect depends on what services are disabled. Those features will not
be available. It would mean antivirus and 3rd party firewalls will not be
running.

Thanks for the posts , folks.
There is a Sprint OCSM service in the group. I don't know what is
accomplished by disabling and re-enabling tho.

well, you can
disable it and
see if it may be
interfering with
your computer.

if you see no
difference, then
you lost nothing and
maybe gain some processor
power.

if you see that
the computer is problematic
then you likely found
the problem...
