Hide updates with Home Premium?

Is there a way to opt out of "some" of the updates that have been
causing slowdowns and get rid of the norification icon in the taskbar?
This is with Vista Home Premium Edition.

Rightclick on the update(s) you don't want and choose 'Hide update'.
