Hide inactive icons

I've recently lost the functionality of the hide inactive
icons feature in the task bar. The feature is checked in
the task bar's properties box. Any ideas where the
conflict is?

There is no 'conflict', this is an intermittent bug. Select an item to be
'always hidden' (something you run but don't need to activate from the
systray very often (your AVP's tray icon would be a good choice) and that
should kick it in the pants.
