Hide Explorer Bar?

J

Jay

Now, whenever I open a drive, the "explorer bar" is present on the left
side. Didn't use to be there, now it is. How can I hide this bar, takes
up too much realestate for my preferences, etc.

Thanks, Jay

Make sure the Folders toolbar button at the top of the window is not
depressed.

I don't think you understand, I don't want the explorer bar on the left
to be there at all, I want only the contents of the drive to be the only
thing displayed, thanks.

Hi Jay,

Info and mo' info:

Right click Windows Explorer/Properties and type this into the Target path:

To have C: open (No folders)
%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /root, C:\

To have My Computer
C:\WINDOWS or Winnt\explorer.exe /n

To have C: open expanded - Examples
%windir%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,c:
%windir%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,f:\Limited Documents

To have C: open and My Documents
%windir%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,c:,%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\My Documents

For it to open to My Documents:
explorer /n,/e,%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\My Documents or
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n,/e,%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\My Documents

To have My Documents open only (No folders)
Explorer /root, c:\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents
Explorer /root, c:,%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Kelly's Computer

If you wish to have Explorer open at My Documents on another drive, you
would use:
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, f:\My Documents

To have another Drive letter assigned to opening: D for example
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe /e, d:\

d:\ can be modified for any folder/sub-folder you like. As in:
%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /e,d:\My Stuff

The /e switch tells Windows Explorer to open in the two pane explorer mode
and the c:\ tells it to open in folder C:\. If you omit the /e switch,
Windows Explorer opens in a single pane view.

I'm looking for something OTHER than a temporary, type it in every time,
solution. Thanks anyways. And besides I couldn't find exactly where to
type those commands in. :-(

This is not temporary.
Right click Windows Explorer/Properties and type which ever you select into
the Target path.

I think what Jay is asking for is to remove the explorer bar entirely
Turning off the "folders" button replaces the folder view with
"common tasks" view, which takes up just as much space. To remove th
explorer bar entirely go to "Tools", then "folder options". Under th
"tasks" section there's two radio buttons:

"Show common tasks in folders" and
"Use windows classic folders"

Using the "classic" option removes the explorer bar and gives you
single-pane view of the contents that's the whole width of the window.
