My boss was playing around in Word 2007 the other day, and managed to dork up
his settings so that every document he opens now looks like a sheet of graph
paper with vertical and horizontal lines.

What is the simplest way to fix this?

On the View tab of the ribbon, uncheck the Gridlines box.

Thanks, Jay.

Exactly what I was looking for. If it had been any more obvious, it would
have bitten me.
