Hide available disk space from users

Christian

I need to be able to hide the available disk space on a
server from users.
We have a new NAS with 700Gb of disk space, but in the
past whenever we clear space from one of the existing
file servers, immediately users try to fill the server
disk space with their own backups (whole copies of their
C drives).

Now we have a NAS available, I want to be able to hide
the available disk space from users, so they are unaware
of how large it is.
I have tried quotas, but this does not hide the space
available, and we have some users that need more than
others, making quotas a high administrative overhead.

Any ideas?

I am not aware of anyway to prevent users from seeing how much space is on a volume. What you may consider is to split the
drive up into smaller partions giving the allusion that it's a smaller drive. Lastly, use quotas to prevent users from using up all
available disk space.

Thank you,
