Got a new computer with Vista three weeks ago.......got my contacts from
Outlook Express transferred over to Windows Mail.
Soon found out, the contact's email addresses are included with their
name/nickname in the "TO" box and also the "CC" box, which I rarely use.
(most of the time, I use the "BCC" box)

I've Googled and haven't found an answer to fix this problem.....so I
thought I'd give this newsgroup a try. Which, BTW, is harder than *&^$ to
configure to post a reply or question.

So, how do I resolve this problem of seeing a person's email address after
their name in the "TO" box??

Also, with Outlook Express, I could enter the first letter of a person's
name...and his/her name would fill in automatically, WITHOUT THEIR ADDRESS
after their name??

TIA for the help....

While in a message compose window, Windows Mail shows you
both the name and email address of the recipient. There is no
way to change that (except for switching to Windows Live Mail).
Although both are visible while composing the email, after
the email is sent, the recipient typically sees only the name.
What the recipient sees is controlled by *his* email program.

Hi Shawn.....and Gary,

First, many thanks for the quick reply to my post....

I did use the workaround you both mentioned.....but it's silly to have to
resort to such extremes,
Problem with sending a letter to myself and the others in the BCC box
is......if I want to check back to see who I sent
a letter, every letter shows I sent it to myself and I'd have to check
"properties" to find out.

IMO, Vista Mail is a downgrade from OE...instead of an improvement.

Have not checked out WLM, so I don't know if will do the same as
OE....maybe better. I tend to shy away from getting tied down
to a proprietary program.....that sets the rules, instead of yourself.

Do you know if I can install "Outlook" on a Vista64 system? I have a copy
of Office 2003 I could install.

I have four computers......three with XP and OE......been using OE since it
came out....which is several years. Switching to a new email program
will take awhile to get proficient. I have six email accounts,....three on
this server and three on Yahoo. Actually, I like the new Yahoo mail and
have
never had a problem with it. It's nice to send/receive mail when I'm out
of town. I also use Skype every day and use it for voice and web
cam....and their file sending works great.
I have at least 75% of my contacts on Yahoo mail......so, I may start using
it as my primary service. I have a Windows Live ID and I guess an account
there too. Maybe it's email program is better than Vista Mail??

I've been using computers for around 20 years.....building my own for 18
years. Was a software tester for Prodigy for four years, with their
Windows software and email and chat programs.

Anyway, thanks again for your comments.....
Take care and have fun....

All email programs are proprietary, Windows Live Mail no more so
than Windows Mail. Trying out Windows Live Mail does not
commit you to anything. If it turns out you don't like it, you can
uninstall, and Windows Mail is back just like before. The nice
thing about it is that it seamlessly imports all your Windows Mail
accounts, settings, and emails.

I know Outlook 2003 works great on 32-bit Vista, but I don't know
about the 64-bit version of Vista. Outlook is not as user-friendly
as the OE/WM/WLM email programs.
