When I got my comp a few years ago, It came with XP Home.
Over the past 6 months I'd say, I contacted Microsoft and
asked them how to install Xp Pro. They charged me $35.
Anyway, I just noticed recently that now the "Standby"
or "Hibernate" modes don't show. Why is that? The person
over at Microsoft that I talked to said that I needed to
reformat my HD, (This was when I was trying to install
Pro) which I did and he guided me on what to do etc.

Now I have XP Pro, and I want to know how to get
Hibernation and Standby Modes back. Please help.

It sound like the wrong hardware abstraction layer is loaded. If you open
device manager (Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager) and look
under the listing for "Computer" if it doesn't say "Advanced Configuration
and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" or something similar with ACPI, then the
wrong HAL is loaded. You can fix by inserting your XP cd, reinstall and hit
F5 when it says, "Press F6 to load any SCSI devices" (or similar). You can
then choose the HAL you want.

Before, it did show the hibernation and standby. (Up
until recently) I just did a system restore and it came
back. I'm wondering if it will stay that way? Or will it
go away again?

Please help.
