I have XP pro and have service pack 2 installed. Hibernation is not very
consistent. I have 2gb ram, but my bios allocates a large amount of this
to video and I cannot change it. I tried installing the fix, Q330909, but
it will not install with SP2 installed. I tried defraging, but it is not
very fragmented and did not help. Any other ideas?

You did not state what your problem is. What size disk do you have?

I have an 84 gb hd with over 46 gb free space. I keep getting an error
message about lack of resources for the API.

Just a stab in the dark, but try setting the page files to "System Managed".
It may or may not be related.

Try HD Tune only gives information and does not fix any
problems.

Download and run it and see what it turns up. You want HD Tune
(freeware) version 2.55 not HD Tune Pro (not Freeware) version 3.00.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard )
and copy into a further message.

Hope this helps.

Why isn't SP3 installed? Work on getting SP3 installed.

I know several people who installed SP3 and the none of their computers
would reboot in normal mode. They had to be rebooted in safe mode and SP3
removed. No thank you.

There seem to two KB Articles on this issue. KB330909 which you have
tried and KB 909095. This is a puzzle:

..The computer occasionally does not hibernate and you receive an
"Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API" error message
in Windows XP with Service Pack 2, in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005,
or in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909095/

This paragraph appears in KB330909.

"Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft
products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. Microsoft Windows
XP Service Pack 2 was enhanced to reduce the occurrence of this
behavior."

I am wondering whether KB330909 is intended for pre SP2 and KB909095 for
post SP2. It could be the paragraph is intended to mean KB330909 is in
SP2. After a protracted search I have found confirmation that it is!
That is most likely why it will not install. Try KB909095.

There are literally millions that have installed SP3 completely error free.
Just do it properly.

As in a fresh boot and then installing? That is what they did. Or is
there something else that needs to be done, some special secret?

I installed the update and now there is no hibernation mode available and I
also have difficulty turning the laptop off!
