when restarting my DT from hibernate it seems to take a very long time
to reload memory.
My LT with about 1/2 the memory is very fast.
I didn't time it yet but it is about 20 sec or more vs 5.
DT has 1.2G, LT has 768M of memory
DT is Athlon tbred 2100+ @ 1970MHz (overclocked)
LT is Athlon 2400+ @ 1800 MHz
DT memory is PC133
LT memory is PC2100
DT hiberfil.sys is 1.3G
LT file is 1.1G
DT drive is 300G Seagate
LT drive is 60G 5400 RPM

thanks

The 2 key factors are probably

(1) Your desktop has to load 1.2 GB from the hard disk into ram on recovery,
whereas the laptop only has 768mb - the whole of ram gets saved to disk
during hibernation.

and

(2) The length of time also depends on hard disk reading speed (ie how
quickly it can read information from the disk into ram), which will be
different for the 2 different hard drives.

Amen
So logically if the amt of ram is x2 and the drive speed is equal the
DT should take twice as long.
OR if the laptop drive speed is slower it should be less than twice as
long - maybe longer

instead the DT is 4 to 5 times slower.

not logical, but then it is WinXP.
right?

I don't know why the hiberfil.sys for the LT is 1.1G with 768M ram and
the DT is 1.3G with 1.2G ram.

Yep. That sounds about right.

Yeah I thought that was a bit odd too.

Anyhow 15 seconds difference is not a massive difference in the big scheme
of things imho
