Hibernate problem

In winXP there is a problem where machine doesn't always go to hibernate
properly. There is a fix for this problem (kb330909), but it doesn't work
every time. Two questions: Is there going to be a fix which works every time?
and: Is there this same problem with Vista?

yeh, hibernation is
really helpful and i
use it "all" the time.

unfortunately, there are
so many variables that
can interfere with it.

if you haven't done so,
you might want to search
the newsgroups for all the
postings on hibernation and
see if there are some suggestions
posted by others for others

what might also be helpful is
that every windows that
is non oem is entitled to
2 free technical support
tickets directly from microsoft
via the microsoft.com site.

if you haven't used yours,
this might be an interesting
issue for them to resolve.

if windows was the "only" thing
loaded and running on the pc and
barring hardware failures,
then issues like these
would not occur.

I forgot to say that there is the problem only when I have 2GB main memory
installed. When I take another 1GB away, there is no this problem.

Yes, with extensive use before initiating hibernation AND 2 gig ram
sometimes hibernation will fail. (I believe stated cause is RAM
fragmentation). It was much worst before the SP2 update, but users
sometimes trigger the failure.

and patches.

using the service above
would spare the use of your
entitled support tickets....

take advantage of it and transfer
the headache to them for resolving.

I forgot to say that there is the problem only when I have 2GB main memory

Make sure your hiberfil.sys file size reflects the amount of RAM you
have installed, 2 GB for 2 GB of RAM.

Oh yes, I found a thread where someone was reporting the same problem as I
did. He was given an advice to install fix kb909095. I installed that too,
and now the hibernation works perfectly. Thanks for the hint.
As I said the fix I found for the problem was kb330909, which for some
reason didn't solve the problem.
