hibernate not working / hot computer

I have a file - hibernate.cmd - on my Desktop. It's contents are as
follows:

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll SetSuspendState

I ran this on my laptop right before putting it in my backup. Two
hours later, I find my laptop is still on (and quite hot). It never
went into standby. The command prompt that the *.cmd opened seemed to
just be hanging.

So, first, is the fact that my laptop got very hot, while in my backup,
something I should be concerned about? Could the heat have damaged the
hard drive in subtle ways, or perhapes the RAM, or something?

Second, why didn't it go into hibernate? There's an Update for Windows
XP (that I did not have installed on this particular computer) that's
supposed "to fix a situation where the computer does not hibernate and
you receive an "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the
API" error message." I, however, did not recieve that error. I didn't
recieve any error. This update has now been installed, but I'm not all
that confident that it'll end up doing anything.

Also, in case it matters, the computer has probably succesfully
hibernated twice a day for the past twenty or so days.

Hi "yaunmoth",

I think your Hibernate Command should have a comma after the dll and no
space after the comma.
Worth a try. Let's know if it works.

Good Luck.
