Hi all, i need help to figure out what my problem with my gsa04160b lg super multi drive recorder.

The thing is, that, when i want to burn cd's at 40x "the maximum speed
allow by the hardware" it only show 4x and 8x. I think that maybe it
related to my last burner that had this maximum speed 8x in burning
cds.The drive was a matchita 1x to 8x capability.

So to figure out what was the problem I did several try like
re-re-re-install all sort of burning sofware that i posses. but its
not working. I also remove from my registry those entry that my last
burner had but it didn't help. So i've done some reading and in the
nero web site and it say that when it can't reach it's macimum speed
(a xyz burner) it's because of the ide driver. So, i've re-install
that nforce 5.1 driver and all other stuff but again no chance.
Plus they've recommand that the drive should be connect in second as a
master??? i did that and now it running like my first install so there
is no fix.

I've updated the firmware in first place so maybe that is the problem.
I went from A300 to A301 and A302... In the process i've been carefull
with the procedure, 1 the drive is not a ome. 2 it look's like the
drive on the lg electronique web site. 3 i've shut down my anti-virus.
4. the drive, the lg-4160b was alone set to master with out any cd
in...

I'm now thinking that the firmware from lg site is for an oem burner
or it's corrupted. But i can't verify that so. What could be the
symptom of a bad flashed firmware?

Is there any link that could help me out...

You have a high speed burner and you would of course have high speed blank
CDs but does your computer have the balls to burn at high speed ?

Personally I've not seen less than 97% of the drive cache full when burning
at 4x (DVD)

The op didn`t give a clue as to his computer. If he is using an old P3 450
or less, I can`t see him even getting an 8X burn. These people see a burner
advertised as 40X burn and run out and buy it thinking that once installed
and using the right medium, they too will be able to burn at 40X as
advertised. When this doesn`t happen they blame the burner. The problem is
not the burner.

Yes it does ;-) OjO
a got an athlon xp 2600 333fbs
a7n8x-x nf2 400
maxtor 80gigs 8mb of cache 48-55mb/s
all of my cd-r are high speed disk.

I would tend to think that the two brand name that i've start burning
with are crap... that the main point here... So the maxi cd's aren't
supported by my lg-4160b and the imation cd-r too. Crap CD will burn
at 8x or maybe the CDs are just not specify in my updated A302
firmware.

i did several burn with it and now, and i'm only concern on my back-up
cd's that hang i little bit when installing what's on them on the
computer.

Is a multi cd/dvd burner a good choice for a reading application only?
like playing game and using other app that need cd's?

thank you...
