Hey Guys... Problem with my Win 2003 AD and Group Policy

Hey Guys, do you think you could give me some insight to the below and
maybe how I can fix it?

I just recently setup a home DC, with Win 2003 Standard Edtion, I have
configured Active Directory and Group Policy on it. I have modified
certain policies adding the groups that I would want the policy applied

too,
However when I log into my XP Computer with a domain account, the
policies are not applied.
To Explain a bit about my situation, I am thinking my problem could
possibly be DNS, but I am not sure on how to go about fixing this.
I own my own IT Business and do own a domain, whith is hosted by
someone else, my sole reason for creating my own home domain is for
Practice for exams. Anyway I Have my router which I have specified a
Static DNS address for my DC, I have given my DC that address, anyway I

have given the DC the DNS address of my routers IP. since it holds the
DNS statistics for my ISP. I have as well given my XP Client the DNS
address of my Routers IP.
the weird thing is. some of the policies have been applied, for
instance if I disable the properties sheet of Network Connections, it
will not allow a guest user to access these settings. but if I run
gpresult in the cmd line, it will give me the error "INFO: The policy
object does not exist."

Any Help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Huh. Group Policies only work for computers and users. There is no way
to apply GPs to groups. The name 'group policy' is a little confusing, I
know.

Yeah, practice is everything for the exams. At least the ones that
Microsoft provides.

Give the clients your DC's IP address as the only DNS reference.
Configure your DC's DNS-server that it will forward DNS requests to the
router, the DC isn't able to resolve itself.

I hope this solves your issue. Otherwise feel free to post again.

Hi Florian, whats up?
I appreciate your response, Just to hear someone refresh my memory
about the Users and computers only in Group Policy makes total sense!
Thanks for the reminder!

However I am having some difficulty understanding DNS. from your
message:

Give the clients your DC's IP address as the only DNS reference.
Configure your DC's DNS-server that it will forward DNS requests to the

router, the DC isn't able to resolve itself.

Could you help me with where I specify these settings? If I got into
DNS Management, would I look under Forward Lookup Zones? and here I
would specify instead of my DC IP? I specify the IP of My Router
Correct? where abouts in here do I actually do the specify?

I am even in the right area?

If you could let me know that would be greatly appreciated Florian!

Thanks
Bryan
