Hi I just reinstalled windows xp after having some issues with it locking up.
I got a new hard drive hoping that would help.. but.. that didn't happen.
still having problems.

I loaded xp and loaded the motherboard on and then went and updated
microsoft. when I downloaded sp2 it started locking up and not wanting to
even get into windows.

I can't get my vidio driver to load and the screen does seem to go on and
off when in windows envirnment. exept in safe mode it don't do that.

thought it was the HD but new one does the same. I took out my ram and
tried one at a time and it still did it with all 2.5 gigs... my cpu temp is
122 deg F dont' know if that is to hot or its ok.. someone told me that if it
was to hot it would lock up and reboot. but in Safe mode it is not having an
issue.

Your post is unclear. What does "I loaded xp and loaded the motherboard on"
mean? What does "updated microsoft" mean? Downloaded SP2 - do you mean
installed or just downloaded the file? Is the system free of malware? Did
you have a firewall active before going online? Was the system running well
before whatever you did with SP2?

What does "I can't get my vidio driver to load" mean? Also what about, "the
screen does seem to go on and off"?

Start from the beginning. Why did you reinstall XP? What made you think it
was the hard drive to cause you to replace that? What were the problems?
What other hardware troubleshooting did you do?

How exactly did you load xp? Did you immediately thereafter install all the
update drivers for the motherboard, chipset, graphics card, etc?

Ok lets start from the beginning... started having problems with windows
acting up. locking up programs then got to the point of not wanting to load
windows at all. (yes I have a firewall and anti virus up and running all the
time, and run Adware, spybot a cpl times a week.)

I decieded to go ahead and reinstall windows xp for one reason I hadn't done
it in like 2-2 1\2 yrs. When xp cleared my drive and ran a scan disk it
found a bad cluster. so when the problem persisted after xp was totally
installed again I thought that maybe it was the hard drive and got a new
one.. my 40 gig is like 3 + years old anyways.

But alas the problem still happens. after loading xp I loaded the mother
board drivers and everything seemed to be still working fine. I then
downloaded Windows updates. after downloading and installing service pack 2
everything started to lock up again.

Funny thing is trying to boot up normally it wont even go into windows. but
when I load up in Safe Mode I get no glitches.

As far as the video card drivers I downloaded them from the card site and it
brought up the install screen and an error message pops up saying something
like "Can't find old drivers install will now abort."

Hope I clarified things a little bit.

Yes that does make things a bit clearer. How are you installing XP? From
an XP installation CD or from a recovery CD? If the former then I recommend
you create an installation CD that has SP2 integrated on it, in a process
called slipstreaming. Do the clean install with that. Here are some links
for how to slipstream SP2. Autostreamer makes it easier.

http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm
http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/

Autostreamer
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1092632287/1
http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/using_autostreamer/using_autostreamer.html
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562

You'll need to download the full version of SP2 or get the SP2 CD. Here is
how to do that:

Download Windows Service Pack 2 Standalone Version
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default810.mspx

Disconnect all peripheral hardware except mouse, monitor, keyboard, CD and
hard drive. After the clean install of XP with SP2, install the drivers
starting with the chipset drivers, then the video, etc.

If what you have is a recovery CD, then after XP is installed, install the
drivers, then immediately install SP2 from the CD or downloaded full
version.

At this point test and make sure the system it running well. If so image
the system to an external drive using something like Acronis True Image.
Image regularly along the way as the installation progresses.

Make sure the XP firewall is running, and install a current AV program and
make sure it has up to date definitions. Do not use any of the Norton Home
Products (NAV, NIS, NSW), or any McAfee products. For AV good free ones are
Avast or Anti-Vir, paid are NOD32 or Kaspersky.

With AV installed visit the windows update site and install the post SP2
updates a few at a time, no more than 4 or 5. Test after each batch. That
way you can minimize problems from installing so many at once, and make it
easier to troubleshoot if there are problems after a batch is installed.
Ideally install one at a time, but with 100 or so post SP2 updates that is a
lot of effort.

Personally I review each update before installing to see if I want/need it.
I like to manually download each update, save a copy and install offline,
manually.

See if that gets things working for you.

Had you ever successfully performed a clean install in the past? I
wonder if you did this one incorrectly.
Funny thing is trying to boot up normally it wont even go into
windows. but when I load up in Safe Mode I get no glitches.

So it seems that you're probably not experiencing hardware problems.

Here's what I would do at this point:

1. Back up all your data.

2. Gather all the installation media for your programs.

3. Make sure you have all the drivers for your hardware.

Did you ever mention the make and model of your PC? And what specific
means you have to reinstall your OS? Different manufacturers provide
different ways to reinstall an OS (or restore your PC to factory-fresh
condition). You need to describe what disks (or methods) you have to do
this job.

In the event you have an installation disk, this page has excellent
instructions for a clean install:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

It's important that you boot from the CD and not your hard drive!!!

4. Install XP the proper way. :)

Afterwards, make sure your Windows firewall is turned on before you
connect to the Internet. Make sure you load all the Windows updates.
Make sure you reinstall all your apps, including anti-virus and
anti-spyware. Once you have your system configured the way you like it,
making an image of your hard drive on an external USB hard drive will
make going back to a pristine PC a breeze.

Finally, the next time you have a similar problem (locked up programs,
Windows not loading properly, etc.), keep in mind that a reinstall is
seldom necessary. Feel free to post a message here with all the
pertinent details.

I KNOW I'm IN THE WRONG SECTION..BUT I HAVENT USED THIS 'HELP SYSTEM' BEFORE.
MAYBE SOMEONE WILL HELP ME OUT ANY HOW? MY PROBLEM IS THIS!
I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE FROM microbillsys.com TELLING ME THAT I HAVE
AGREED TO USE A PORN SITE & THEY INSIST THAT I OWE £39.99. NOW LIKE A LOT OF
OTHER PEOPLE, I MAY HAVE HAD A LOOK AT SOME DUBIOUS SITES. BUT I CERTAINLY
WOULD NOT AGREE TO A PAYMENT OF ANY KIND! SO HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS? WHEN I
RUN SPYBOT, IT APPEARS TO REMOVE IT, BUT THEN IT POPS BACK ON TO MY SCREEN
AGAIN, AND IT IS 'LOCKED' FOR UP TO 5 MINS THIS HAPPENS EVEN WHEN I AM 'OFF
LINE'. THERE IS A PHONE No & AN EMAIL ADDRESS, BUT I'M AFRAID THAT IF I
RESPOND TO THIS I WILL BE ADMITTING THAT I AGREED IN THE FIRST PLACE. SURELY
THIS IS ILLEGAL, TO ME SMACKS OF BLACKMAIL! MY COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE IS VERY
LIMITED. SO PLEASE KEEP IT SIMPLE
