I am using Outlook and almost everytime I send a mail
with an attachment the receiver gets the attachment as a
dat file. HUGE irritation. And noone has an answer for
me.

Firstly, please try to use a subject line that is a bit more succinct
than just "help"!

You are probably sending using Rich text Format to a non-Outlook user.
Try changing your Email Format to either plain text (preferred) or HTML.

possibly your isp is making the conversion.

remember you have no control after it leaves youre
computer.
