I know this is not a Windows XP Help problem, but you guys are so great and
seem to know everything, and I can't find an Intel forum.
I have been having problems and after sending the error report to Microsoft,
they tell me it was likely caused by Intel StorageDriver(IdeChrDr.sys. I
have an Intel 845E chipset and the Ultra ATA Storage Driver.
In checking the Intel site, it says this driver is no longer supported and I
should download the Intel Application Accelerator. But, then I discovered
that it, too, is no longer supported after 12/31/2005. And I don't see any
suggestion for replacement, nor can I ask them, since they don't support it
(tried - email rejected)
Meanwhile, here is the problem I am having.
I hear a "click, click, click, <slight pause> click from my tower. After a
few moments this repeats. And again, etc. Up until yesterday it stopped
making the noise within 3 - 4 minutes and everything was A-OK.
Now, however, after going through the clicking for a few minutes, it
reboots. (While it is clicking, the machine is frozen, can't use mouse,
keyboard, etc.) I then get the Blue Screen with the message: "DRIVE IRQL
NOT LESS Or EQUAL and it suggests the problem might be with newly installed
hardware or software, but I have not installed anything new recently.
Although it doesn't usually record an error in the Event Log, when it does it
is a System Error Category 102, Event Id 1003. Error Code 1000000d1
parameter1 00000034, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4
f868b8f0. This information is usually on the blue screen. It then reboots
and everything is OK for from 5 to 20 minutes when it repeats.
