hello, for some reason my pc has slowed down to a snails pace, it usually
takes about 30 secs to start and is now taking about 10 mins, other symptoms
include, my pc seems to be constantly loading things wen im not doing
anything, but generally everything has completely slowed down and it is
taking ages to do anything. i have done virus checks and spyware and adware
checks but nothing has changed its pace, i am using xp pro as well, i dont
wanna have to re-format cos i got loads of important things on here and at
the pace my pc is going it will take me till about 2012 to get it all saved
onto disk, any help is greatly appreciated

Is it safe to assume that you've done everything possible to be sure the
machine is clean of viruses, trojans, etc? Go to the link below, and click
on the "Let's Dance" button. It'll take you to a very long page. If you
haven't done everything on that page, then you haven't done enough.

If you have access to another PC, try creating a BartPE boot CD plus all of
the plugins and imaging software, then try using it to boot your PC with the
CD drive set as the first boot device in the BIOS.

If it is quick to boot, then investigate your startup programs and the
running processes. You can do the latter by using the Process Explorer from
http://www.sysinternals.com/.
