Help!

I have Windows XP Home Edition. Computer will be 4 years old this June.

I keep getting thrown out of Windows to the DOS prompt, which says,

PXE-E61: Media Test Failure Check Cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE Rom
Boot Failure: System Halted.

I would appreciate any help.

Your machine can't boot to Windows because your hard drive is bust.. when
the computer boots, it can't find a bootable diskette, CD or hard drive..
the next boot device as set in your BIOS is a 'network', hence the message..

Your best course of action is to replace the hard drive with a new one and
start over.. you will need original installation media to do this, a
recovery CD set or XP CD..

If I were you, I would buy a new drive at your earliest convenience, and
quickly clone the old drive to it before you get complete failure..

I can still work in Windows. It only does this 2 or 3 times a day. Does
that still mean the hard drive is going?

Try HD Tune (freeware). Download and run it and see what it turns up.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on C:\ under Drive letter
and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Also do a full surface scan with HD Tune.

Hope this helps.
