My computer freezes every 30 minutes more or less. I have
to turn it off and then turn it on again, and then after
aproximately 30 minutes it freezes again. I have tried
closing every program and nothing. What should I do.
Please help me.

Hi,

1. Spywares/trojan horse/virus
2. Heat

For 1, scan the system with any antispyware softwares, such as Ad-aware 6.0,
Spybot S & D, etc. Delete any files it found. then scan with antivirus
software with updated virus definitions to ensure the whole system is clean.

For 2, open the chassis and blow with a electric fan, run the system with
full load for a period of time; if the symthom went away, heat is the culprit.

You will better help yourself when you make an identifiable STATEMENT in the
'subject line': "Computer freezes up after 30 minutes?" would have been
appropriate.

Version of your OS?

For Win XP: FAT 32 or NTFS?

RAM installed? USABLE RAM? (A portion of RAM is sometimes allocated to
VIDEO: 512/32=480MB of USABLE RAM.)

WHEN was the last time you ran 'chkdsk' (scandisk for older OS's)?
Defragmented the Volumes on your HardDrive?
Purged your 'Temporary Internet Files' INCLUDING the 'cookies' within those
files - NOT the "Cookies Folder"?

If you do a LOT of 'surfing' are you using a hosts file?

I personally, suggest that you download, install, *update* and RUN the
following--- in the order listed

1. AdAware: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html [update]

2. Spy-Bot Search & Destroy: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
[update]

3. FreeRam XP Pro:
http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/products.html#FreeRAM_XP_Pro [no update]

You may also get AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition here:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ [update]

You might also INCREASE your pagefile/swapfile size - mine is a permanent
(min/max) 1024MB (1GB) . . . on Drive D: (I don't care for swelling &
shrinking. I want it in a permanent--- defined location.)

Not knowing your actual situation; the above is simply . . . logical
suggestions.

From personal experience, suggest that you check log
entries for System in Event Viewer. Find any errors
caused by ACPI?
If so, is the error caused by something trying to read
from a port that falls within a protected range of port
numbers? I had this happening, without any adverse
consequences for a long while, but patching or something
made the computer begin to freeze, and turning off the
electricity was the only way to recover. It finally got
so bad I could not use the computer. It has something to
do with the BIOS and ACPI. An updated BIOS might solve
your problem. I had to resort to buying a new CPU,
because I could not find an updated version of the BIOS
for my model of Compaq Presario. It was about 3 years
old and ready for upgrading anyway.
