I have windows xp home edition, and use AOL as my internet service provider.
When the computer starts up and I log on to my account, AOL and internet
explorer starts up automatically. How do i stop this from happening??
Thanks!!!!

sorry to hijack the thread but I can't get the new thread thing to work.

On the windows xp support page it says:

• The Explorer.exe process may unexpectedly quit when you try to search for
a file in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003
Discusses a problem that may occur after the Windows 2000 Resource Kit is
installed in Windows XP or in Windows Server 2003. To work around this
problem, uninstall the Windows 2000 Resource Kit.

but it doesn't say how to do it, either there or on the linked page.

where are the directions? ? ?

Right click my computer, select
explore, expand c: (click plus sign), expand documents and settings, find
your log in and expand it. Should be a folder for starrt menu open the
folder and find another folder called startup, then locate the program and
delete it.

Kill the startup programes of AOL and internet explorer.Usually you can
find them in
%homepath%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or
%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
If you don't konw how to find it,you can use Security Expert to manage
your startup programs.
Go to http://securityexpert.cnns.net/AutoRun02.htm to konw more.
