I am a teacher who recently downloaded a template grade
book. It works great except for one thing... How can I
enter exempt grades - grades that don't count in the
formula?

What is the formula? What does 'grade' mean? If 'grades' are A,B,C,D,F and
your formula is counting these, you should be able to use a slight variation
and it wont be counted, e.g. Ax Bx Cx Dx Fx

Without formula it's a shot in the dark for a short response.

Hi,
If your entering a number for a grade, enter a single quote first and the
data will be treated as text.
The single quote will only be visible in the formula bar.

75
'56
77
=average(a1:a3)=76
=sum(a1:a3)=152...
