HELP!!

My system is not recording any restore points (it is configured to), is not
recording history, will not install America online (it says there is a
"severe error) and will not run windows update. Took it to Best Buy to get
it fixed. They said they couldn't fix it and reinstalled the operating
system, charged me $200 and had me pick it up. It still has the same
problems. I am feeling desperate. Please help!

The first thing I would do is take it back to Best Buy and insist they fix
it properly. Did they tell you that they were going to reinstall the OS?
Did they give you the option of backing up your data before doing a
reinstallation? Did they do a clean install or just a repair install?
Basically, they have ripped you off for $200.00. Don't leave the store
without your machine being fixed.

If you don't feel you can do this, you can do a clean install yourself,
which will format the hard drive (wiping out all files and your data, so
backup if you can or so desire) and remove any and all viruses, spyware and
so on. You can do a Google search for "clean install of windows xp" and you
will have lots of information to help you, if needed.

If you do the format and clean install, DO NOT connect the machine to the
internet without enabling the firewall first. This will protect your
machine from any malware while you get the necessary Windows Updates.
