Help X700 XT or GeForce 6600 GT?

I am having a new PC build and need advice on the choice of Card. I
see lots of cards for under $100 and many cards over $400 but, I want
to spend between $200-$300. The ATI Radeon X700 XT or X700 PRO and
the GeForce 6600 GT all look good.

But, I still have questions like does the X700 PRO's 256mb really make
a big difference since 6600 GT and X700 XT are both 128mb.

What about noise I read the X700 PRO uses a huge fan and makes a lot
of noise? Is GeForce 6600 GT a lot more quiet?

Both X700 PRO and X700 XT are about $200 each. The X700 PRO has 256mb
but, the reviews I read say its slower than the X700 XT; why?

Core Clock Pixel pipes clock MHz Memory
Radeon X700 Pro 420 8 864 256MB
Radeon X700 XT 475 8 1050 128MB

Overall which is the better card GeForce 6600 GT, X700 XT or X700 PRO?

Thanks

I just read a harsh column in the new computer mag (pcuser) about the rip
off policy of Nvidia and Ati - ridiculous pricing of so called "high end"
cards. The mag recommends to buy a console like xbox etc. since it plays the
most demanding and popular games for a fraction of the price.

game over...

Game consoles have always been better values than game PCs. This has been
true since the Sega Genesis days. However, the fact that we are here,
posting in this newsgroup, means we are already resigned to paying more for
higher-resolution graphics, newer technology, more flexible online
connectivity...

You can play HL2 on an XBox?

There have been a few threads posted about this comparison already.
Essentially, in order of performance:

1. 6600GT
2. X700XT
3. X700Pro

The XT is faster than the Pro because it's clocked higher. 256 MB is a waste
of money. You can also look at the 6800 (non-ultra), which is just slightly
more expensive than the 6600GT; this is a 12-pipeline card that has a 50/50
chance of being soft-moddable to 16-pipelines.

Soon, very soon, my friend.

I know there is going to be a XBox version, but you are deluding
yourself if you think it will be anything like the PC version.

I'm building a new pc and I went with the X700 Pro (256 mg). You can buy it
for $179 to 199.
I do believe the extra 128 will make some difference in some games.
To each his own.

Why not? Bump the resolution down to 640x480, no AA or Aniso, and reduce
texture sizes a bit, and it will run like a charm on a 733MHz Intel CPU and
GeForce 2 "Ultra".
