Help with XP Network

B

Brent

Hi! I am trying to setup a network in my apartment where
I currently have three computers. One wired and two
wireless. All hardware is setup correctly (cable modem
with dynamic ip and a wireless router) however I cannot
get the PC's networked together using the one wired PC as
a server. Or even a peer to peer network or basically
anything easy that can share files and printers. All PC's
have Windows XP Professional SP2.

Anyone have suggestions?

Brent,

Please provide details what you mean when saying "I cannot get the PC's
networked together...". They don't connect? Can't see them in Network
Neighborhood? Can't access shares seen in NN? Other?

Cheers,
Chuck

I think what the problem I am having is the fact that two
PC's are wireless and the server is wired. I went
through and have made sure that the sharing settings are
ok on the server. My network is much like the diagram at
http://www.ezlan.net/~network/router.jpg The router I
use is a LinkSys wireless router, so the cable modem
connects to the wireless router which in turn only
connects to one computer via an ethernet cable, but
connects to two computers via a wireless card. The two
wireless computers are assigned dynamic ip's, but the
wired computer has a static ip address behind the
router.

My wireless computers can see the wired computer, but the
wired computer cannot see the wireless computers and i
cannot access any "shares" either way.

Please let me know if this information sparks anything.

Thanks

Brent,

That sounds kind of normal. Mixing wired and wireless connections on the LAN is
what a wireless router should do with no problems.

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with each ipconfig listing.

Has Windows Firewall been configured for file sharing (File and Printer Sharing
exception enabled) on all 3 computers?

Cheers,
Chuck
