I have Windows Vista Basic and I can not update my wondows Defender. It gives
me the Error message ( 0x80240029 ) It says to uninstall Windows Defender and
reinstall from the web site. When I go to my Uninstall Programs Windows
Defender is not in My uninstall programs? So now what do I do?

Check in the vista.security newsgroup for a solution and try if it works for
you as well.

I will try that Hedy thank you, I did read on this problem on here and
learned there was one person who said go into Windows Defender and click the
box thats in Options that says for when only I want to check for updates, so
I did 2 times! Then went back in and changed it back to the 1st box which was
allowing Windows Defender to check on its own for updates... I also unclicked
2 check marks on the bottum, When I came back to put it the way it was the
last box was gone, nothing to check mark? So I did loose something, but yet
it did finally download my updates for Windows Defender!
Now I am on a none adminastrater screen name and I can not even load my
Windows Defender? I am sure that it is not running also? I believe that
because I am running The Windows Live OneCare it makes Windows Defender Shut
down, ( Messes it all up ) OR ( I have a hacker ) Also every scan never finds
anything? That seems hard to believe? When I started messing around trying to
update Windows Defender it was like the End of Feb. 2007 and the dates on the
Windows defender was like 03/24/07 ? It was telling my computer it was ahead
of it? Its not right and would like to just take it out and re-download?
Thats my only complant so far with Windows Vista, Something was slowing my
system down sum and I believe it was Spyware!

Windows Live OneCare turns off Windows Defender by design. This is because
OneCare, amongst its various functions, provides at least the same security
as Windows Defender. If you are running OneCare, Defender will not update,
it has no need to.
