Help with sound problem?

I thought I had fixed this problem by moving my sound card to another
slot, but it's happening again.

I lose the sound card every time I restart. Device Manager identifies
it, but Control Panel says it isn't there. I regain it by uninstalling
the Creative Audigy card from Device Manager, restarting and letting XP
reinstall it.

I've tried everything I know to do, except for a complete uninstall from
safe mode. When I try removing all instances of the sound card from
there, XP freezes and I have to shut down from the power button. I may
need a driver update, but I'm stuck in a loop. I can't update, because
installing the new driver requires a restart that loses the card again.

Any suggestions? What could cause the safe mode freezes?

Thanks for helping, Mary.

I haven't experienced the digital-analog conflict described in the two
documents. The card works fine while it's installed. I just can't get it
to stay installed.

Make sure the drivers are in the %systemroot&/windows/drivers folder. If the
setup program doesn't install them, copy the drivers there.
If "found new hardware" occurs point the source to the above folder. Hope it
works.
