Help with opening folders please

Whenever I try to open My Docs, My Pics, My Computer, Control panel etc from
the Start Menu or from desktop shortcuts, the window starts to open up but
immediately closes again. Programmes open up ok.

I've tried restoring the system to yesterday and nothing is showing in a
virus scan. Any suggestions please?

See if the Event log gives a hint.

How do I view the error messages registered in Event Log?:
