Help With Linked Files

Crownman

I have an Excel database that is linked to about 400 workbooks that
are contained in bout 35 different folders. The database and all of
the folders containing the linked files are contained in a single
folder.

I have received updates for several of the linked files and am trying
to replace some of the linked files with the updates (which are
exactly the same file name as the linked file). When I do this and
open the database I get the error message that some of the files could
not be updated. If I look at the edit links I get a list of nearly
every file in the database even if I have only tried to update a few
files. I have tried doing the replacement via both copy and move with
the same result.

Can anyone give me some guidance on how to solve this problem?

Thanks you for your help.

The files might be named the same, but the links don't just reference a file,
they reference a particular cell on a specific sheet in that file, so if by
any chance the sheet names are so much as one character different then it
will error out on you. Could that be the problem at all?

Ken:

Thank you for your help. Since several people other than myself work
with a set of files that are supposed to remain identical to the
source link files it is certainly possible, that despite specific
instructions to the contrary, that some changes other than the actual
data may have been made. Since this will be almost impossible to
completely control, I'll have to figure out some other approach.

Again, I appreciate your help.

You're welcome - Best of luck with it, because CM control in Excel is not
the easiest thing in the world :)
