I can not get Disk Cleanup to work. It went about 1/8th of the way on the
bar and then stops, tells me it may take awhile. I left it over an hour and
it had not moved. The hard drive is acting like it is doing something. How
long should a disk cleanup take. I have XP Pro

What stage is taking the time? Assessing how much space can be saved
or the cleaning up process?

Hope this helps.

Hi Elaine,

Try this KB article if the Disk Clenaup is not respoding while
compressing the old files.

Thanks William, worked like a charm, this is a great group. Now can I
delete the volumecaches from my desktop?

Hi Elaine,

I am assuming the "volumecaches from my desktop" is the Registry branch
you backup to your desktop before deleting the *compress* *old* *file*
registry key. If it is then you _may_ safely delete the "volumecaches"
registration file from your Desktop.

I am glad the solution I provide has solved your problem with the Disk
Cleanup tool for Windows XP.
