Help with directory oddity..

T

The Admiral

I've got a directory (c:\windows\prefetch) that appears empty...no system files
and no hidden files. I have no idea when/where that directory came from. I
can not delete it. It says that the directory is not empty. I've tried
dropping to dos to delete it with the same results. I've done a "del *.*"
within it and it says no file found. I have no clue what's going on.

Can anybody help with this?

Thankz.

Hi

That folder is used by the system. If you did manage to delete it, a new
Prefetch folder will be created next time you reboot your PC

Thankz. Now perhaps this....

When I run norton Win doctor, it's taking forever and a day to scan that
directory when it is "finding solutions". Any ideas?

Hi

I don't use any Norton products - so I'm afraid I can't help you.

Set Windows to show hidden and system files and you'll see them all.

It's safe to clean it out. Your boot will be a bit slower the first few
times before the system gets back up to speed. What this does is
prefetch application files so that they can be accessed from this folder
(which is faster). But when the junk builds up, Windows slows down, so
empty it out every so often.
