I am having a serious problem with my image files (bmp, jpg, gif, png you
name it). It happened when I ran the SP2 update. I have not lost the image
files but no program will open them and there is no thumbnail. There are
only about 5 or 6 out of 100's that were not affected. I am no novice when
it comes to computers/windows and I have tried everything to fix this
problem including reassociating them with no luck.

When I ran the SP2 update I received an error concerning Microsoft Picture
It 9 Express. Now, the program has been corrupted and will no longer
function, I tried to repair it through Add and Remove Programs but it only
made it worse. I uninstalled it and now can't figure out where to get it
again to reload it.

Most of the images are my artwork and family photos and I can't stand the
thought of losing them.

Thank you in advance!

The SP2 Update, in fact any application that is installed on your PC, does
absolutelty NOTHING to data files or other applications' information [with
the obviuos exception of Registry entries].

If you cannot open image files, then I suggest that your pictures are OK.
It's just the application that is having some issues.

To be onb the safe side, copy them across to CD just to ensure that in
attempting to load a files the application manages to corrupt the data, but
again, I'm baffeled as to how this may happen.

In addition to BAR's post.

Some of the image extensions you listed should open with Microsoft Paint
{All Programs, Accessories}. Appears that when you uninstalled Picture It
Express, the file associations were not reassigned to another image
programs. Try right clicking on the *.bmp and *.gif files and choosing
Paint as the program to open the file. Paint will also handle *.jpg files
if you have the correct filter installed which usually requires installation
of an application, such as Office to install the filter.

Picture It Express usually comes preinstalled or as a free application with
some product. If it came preinstalled, look for it in the application
recover CDs that came with your computer. I seen Picture It Express
packaged with some {marked} Avery forms and HP inkjet refills. Likely
others.

If you liked Picture It Express, you may want to purchase Picture It Premium
10 or one of the Microsoft Digital Image 10 products { see
http://www.microsoft.com/products/imaging/default.mspx }. These are new
versions, so you are likely to find them on promotional sale. All have
Microsoft rebates. On the rebate card, I can find no reference to needing a
prior product for the rebate.

Agree with BAR. Copy your files to a CD or at least another folder before
trying anything.
