Help With: 0x800CCC35 Method Not Allowed

SteveT

Hi,

I'm using WinXp Prof with IE 6 SP1 and Outlook Express V6. All of a sudden,
I'm unable to upload new mail messages using either Outlook Express or
Outlook 2002 as the email client.

Receive the following:

The server does not support the required HTTP methods. Account: 'Hotmail',
Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol:
HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Method Not Allowed', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800CCC35

The only article describing this (Q311022) does not apply since I'm not
using multiple identities or OExpr under Win98.

Does anyone know of anything else I can look for to debug this issue. I can
download new Hotmail messages, but can't send any. I'm sure Hotmail hasn't
been changed to disallow access from outside IE!? Web access for me still
works OK. I continue to test this with only one email client configured to
access Hotmail, either Outlook 2002 or Outlook Express V6, but not at the
same time. Even destroyed identities and profiles and re-created but NG.

Any thoughts? Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,

While I myself can not find your exact scenario documented, here are some
things to test.

1. This can be caused if the domain is set to be a restricted site in the
registry even though it is not listed in Internet Explorer options.
-- Check the following key.
-- HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\internet
sttings\zonemap\domains
-- If a domain has been added to the trusted or restricted site it will
appear under Domains as a subkey, for example "hotmail.com"
-- If the domain is a trusted site it will have a value of 0x00000002 (2)
-- If it is a restricted site it will have a value of 0x00000004 (4)

2. Cookies must be enabled for Hotmail to work correctly. Make sure IE is
set to accept third party cookies

I have Windows ME and this has just started happening to me recently
(past few days). Don't know what caused it. Maybe re-installing some
software. Or maybe installing patches and updates.

But, this is what fixed it for me: ALLOW cookies from msn.com,
passport.com, and hotmail.com (I have really restricted security on my
system and did NOT have allowance for hotmail.com -- adding that
solved the problem). Message shot like out of a cannon as soon as I
added allow-cookies for hotmail.com.
