HELP!!! WinXP Pro upgrade won't install

I bought a Dell Dimension 8100 from Dell with WinME installed and WinXP Pro
upgrade disks which shipped later and were lost until today.

I followed the INSTALL PROCEDURE exactly, summarized as follows:

1) Inserted the Drivers And Utilities For Upgrading Your Dell Computer To
Windows XP Professional CD im my CD drive.

2) When prompted, I chose Run The Prep Tool. Everything went exactly as
described in the directions. So far, so good.

3) Upgraded the BIOS from A09 to TST. Went exactly as described. Restart
show BIOS = TST. So far, so good.

4) Printed instructions from Drivers And Utilities CD, then removed CD. So
far, so good.

5) Inserted Microsoft Windows XP Professional installation in my CD drive.
It ran automatically, presenting the following screen:

Welcome To Microsoft Windows XP
What do you want to do?
=>Install Windows XP
=>Perform additional tasks
=>Check system compatibility

When I chose "Install...", a new screen opens ("collecting information")
then, a few seconds later, BAM, a dialog window pops up saying:

"Setup cannot upgrade your current installation to Windows XP. Your copy of
Windows XP does not support upgrading from an evaluation copy of windows.
Setup cannot continue."

The same thing happens when I chose "Check system..." then "Check my system
automatically".

The only change I have made to WinME as origanally installed by Dell was to
flash the BIOS from A09 to TST as described above. WinME reboots OK with
this BIOS (TST) installed. So where is this "evaluation copy of windows"
coming from and how do I get WinXP to install?

SYMPTOMS
When you try to upgrade from Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98
Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) or Microsoft
Windows NT 4.0 Workstation to Windows XP Professional, you may receive the
following error message:
Setup cannot upgrade your current installation to Windows XP. Your copy of
Windows XP does not support upgrading from an evaluation copy of Windows.
Setup cannot continue.
CAUSE
Although the error message indicates that you are running an evaluation
version of Windows, this is not the case when you are trying to upgrade from
Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, or Windows NT 4.0
Workstation. There are no evaluation versions of these versions of Windows
from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) channels. This error message may
occur if the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM that you are using to upgrade is
designed to upgrade only an OEM version of Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional.
RESOLUTION
Contact the OEM that supplied the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM to obtain
an upgrade CD-ROM that can upgrade Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition,
Windows Me, or Windows NT 4.0
