Help!!! Windows 2000 problem!

I've just reformatted my computer and installed Windows 2000. Once I
connect to the internet, after a few minutes I get the following error:

This system is shutting down. please save all work in progress and logg
off. any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT
Authority/system.

MESSAGE
the system process 'C:\windows/system32\lsass.exe' terminated unexpectedly
with status code -1073741819 the system will now shutdown and restart.

then it gives me 60 secs till it shutsdown.

I've reformatted and re-installed twice now and noticed that this error
ONLY comes up, after I connect to the internet. Therefore, somehow a virus
keeps getting installed on my machine once I connect to the internet. I've
tried updating from Microsofts web site and that doesn't seem to work.

How on earth do you fix this? I mean from what it seems, its like the
virus is sitting on the Microsoft Windows update site or something.
Because once I connect to the internet and go to update Windows, PRESTO I
get a virus.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

From what I've read from the sources you gave me (thank you btw), it seems
that when you run windows update, the sasser virus gets transmitted to your
computer. One would think that Microsoft would catch on to this and
elimate the threat. After all, as long as you don't use Windows Update,
this problem will not happen.

And it's not specially 2000 this happens to. I've had this problem on
Windows XP as well.

There has to be some service or port this virus uses to transfer the virus
on anyone's system. With XP, if you turn on the ICF service before you
hook your system up to the net, you do not get the virus or lsass.exe
error. But if you do not use the ICF service and go on the net for
updates, you get the virus.

The link I gave you has nothing to do with a virus. It's a bug
that was resolved in subsequent service packs.
