Assuming there is no unallocated space on the drive, there is no way
with XP's native tools to partition the drive as you want it. BootIt
Next Generation (BING), from Terabyte Unlimited, will do this. They
offer a 30 day, full featured, free trial offer.

Contact dell tech support about how you can make a recovery CD, if it's
possible, or check the laptop's documentation.

Otherwise get a drive imaging program such as Norton Ghost or Acronis
True Image and save an image of the drive to an external hard drive or
to DVD.

Please do not multipost. If you think your question should be in more
than one newsgroup, crosspost to a few others. See this link for an
explanation:

In addition to the answer you got from Rock here, find the post you made
in the other newsgroup and read my answer to you. If you can't find
your post, use Google Groups Advanced Search and search for your name.

Contact Dell and demand the CD for the OS you purchased.
