HELP w/pivot table grouping (dates)

HELP!
I'm working with a 2000 version of Microsoft Excell and trying to us
the grouping function for dates. I cannot get it to work! I'v
followed the help directory in Excell and have viewed the tutorial o
this website and come up with the same error message each time "Canno
Group That Selection" The Excell Help directory states "You canno
group data in PivotTable and PivotTable reports that are based o
source data from OLAP databases” This confuses me because I a
not pulling data from any other source. I'm working from within th
same spreadsheet. What am I dong wrong? Do I need to reconfigure m
source data?

If there are blank cells in the date field, you won't be able to group
the date. Or perhaps the dates are being treated as text.
