Help w/Outlook 2002 sp2, IMAP, and receive before send

I have a user who uses Outlook 2002 SP2, and in trying to send a
message, is denied with a message relay error. They are trying to send
from home via our IMAP/SSL mail server. I've installed the same
version on my machine and looked at its options, but cannot figure out
how to have it check email before sending. If configured to receive
before sending, the authentication will be cached long enough for
checking new mail so the user can then send without a problem.

How can I help resolve this?

Thanks.

tools, accounts, Change existing accounts, select IMAP account, Change. More
Setting button. Outgoing server tab - set it to use the same password as the
incoming server. If that fails, have them check mail automatically every 10
min or do a send/receive right before sending. Outlook doesn't support a
specific 'send before receive.
