I overheard part of a conversation concerning virus removal on an XP Dell.
Went something like this.....
"They couldn't get the virus off my hard drive, so they finally took all my
files off , removed the virus, and restored the files, and now it works
great...."

Never heard that one before, so...my question is....How did they do that?
Thanks guyz!

Probably copied out the "C:\Documents and Settings\User" profile to media or created a
Ghost image of the PC.

The PC was then wiped, the OS was re-installed (and apps., updates, etc) and the data was
subsequently restored.

It was my understanding that everything including the OS was lifted from the
HD and replaced together after the virus files were removed. Wouldn't a
ghost image contain any bad files that were on the HD? Confused here. Thanks
for taking time to answer. I really appreciate it.

Yes, Ghost catches everyting including the hard disk formatting scheme.

To truly understand what was doen, one needs direct information not third party hearsay.
Without that there can only be conjecture.
