Help, Video card issue?

G

Guest

I have a ATI Saphire 1600 512meg video card. The index is a 4.6 for graphics
and a 4.9 for gaming graphics. The problem is everytime I play Chess Titans
the screen freezes (Complete Lockup) and I have to power off computer and
restart to get it to work again. I have all updated drivers for the card.
What could be the problem???

Hammerj,

Try checking a Vista report for specific errors and corrective measures to
take: Click on Start (icon) and select All Programs. Then, select
Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions. When that report opens, select
from among the Tasks on the left margin and elsewhere. Here you may see
specific information about what caused your problem. If you get some insight
from the report, take the corrective action suggested in the report.

Still the same. This is the only error that was listed.. I don't think this
has anything to do with my video card. It runs everything else but that game
fine.

Hammerj,

Looking at your report information, I see that the Application Name is
"svchost.exe" that's causing the problem. There is no one simple explanation
for what could be causing this situation. There are various possibilities.

One solution is to update Vista with all the latest updates. Updates often
include fixes that can cause svchost.exe errors.

Another cause for this condition is malware. Malware can disguise itself as
svhost.exe, which is a legitimate Windows system file. That makes it hard to
identify. Using the latest updates for your virus scanner, scan your system.
Legitimate svchost.exe runs out of system32, but a virus svchost.exe would
run from some other location. In Task Manager, you can right click the file
and select Open File Location to confirm that it's running from system32.

When you get this error, right click your Task Bar and select Task Manager.
Under the Performance tab, note whether CPU usage is very high, or even at
100%. Svchost.exe problems often use excessive amounts of CPU.
