So.... My daughter got grounded from the computer and I came up with the
brilliant idea to change all the passwords so she couldnt go in when I wasnt
at home. I used the same password to all the accounts (im the adm. on the
comp.) Well when I was going to go in on my account, it kept asking me if I
had forgotten the password, I know what I used and obviously I must have
typed it in twice since it didnt tell me otherwise. Now I am blocked out from
my own account which is the adm. account on the computer. Is there any way I
can reset????

Thanks a lot

You haven't specified if it's XP Home or Pro. There is a built in
Administrator account by that name. With Pro it prompts to assign a
password to that account at installation. With Home it does not so the
default is blank. To access the Administrator account from XP Pro at the
welcome screen do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice. This will bring up the login dialog
box. Type Administrator and then the assigned password. For XP Home boot
into safe mode and the Administrator account should appear on the welcome
screen. Once logged in change the password.

If you still can't get in use this utility.

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and modify the desired account(s) and use Start > Run
"control userpasswords2" to modify the desired account(s). By
design, the only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home
is to reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice
at the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.

Failing that, Linux-based password cracking utilities abound on the
Internet, freely available to anyone who can use Google.
