HELP: triple-boot system woes..

I got Windows98SE installed first in C:\ partition. Then Windows XP
installed in D:\ partition. Then Redhat Linux 8.0 installed in it's own
partition (obviously).

My Windows98SE has become corrupted and cannot boot. Something with
motherboard drivers did something bad. I want to re-install Windows98SE
(after a clean format to C:\). However I believe I will loose my GRUB linux
loader and Windows XP loader.

1. Do I backup all my root files in C:\ root directory.
2. Install Windows 98SE after format C:\
3. Replace all root files in C:\ with backed up C:\ root files.
4. Boot up Windows XP CD and run recovery console with fixmbr command.
5. Use linux rescue disk?

Hmm.. I actually had to run WinXP CD via Windows98 to do New Installation of
windows. This wrote the proper Windows XP multi-boot in MBR.

However I can't seem to rescue my linux. I tried linux rescue and type
grub-install /dev/hda1 but that totally messes up my partition tables and
now I can't see my C:\ & windows 98SE.

boo hoo.

What I like to know is how to effectively recover Windows 98 and XP
partitions.... without going through the process of reinstalling...
