help restoring windows xp

Some how we got a virus, and tried to do a restore system on XP, and it did
not help. The backround picture, and many files are now unable to load. If
someone could help out I would like the advice.

at this stage of the mess I would reinstall everything from
scratch........formating during the process
..hope you backed up what you wanted to save!!

I think what you have to do is format your computer if this is the case.
