Help Restoring System to Original - CD Will Not Work

I am trying to use my Compaq restore CD to restore my computer (Presario 1700
laptop) to its original condition. When I attempt to run the restore program
from the CD, I get the error message below and am booted back to the desktop.
I beleive one or more of my system files may be damaged - the reason I want
to restore in the first place. Can anyone help?

D:\QR\QRPROSIG.EXE
An application has attempted to directly access the hard disk, which can not
be supported. This may cause the application to function incorrectly. Choose
'Close' to terminate the application.
