Okay im not a wizz kid so i need some idiot proof advise. My hp laptop
crashed major stye and lost the operating system window xp home
edition, my brother managed by floppy disk to get it running again but
with xp proffesional and has asked me not to register it so i now need
to reload windows xp home edition with my legal version i have. The
problem i have is that when i try to install it it wont let me boot
from the cd, if you read the cd then all the options are there even
thou it has a crack on the actual disk but you cant actually feel that,
but when you click on the install option it does nothing. I have tried
to set the boot settings to start up straight from the cd drive but it
just wont let me boot from the cd. Is this because i already have
another version running and will i have to delete the proffesional
version first if so how do i do all of this. By the way i have given up
trying to recover files as well as the clusters are all muddled up and
any text i read is in gobbledly gook

Help please kes

Is English a second or third language for you? If so, may I
suggest that you try posting your question in a news group dedicated
to your native language? I say this not to insult or offend, but
rather to point out that you're not likely to get much help, if no one
can understand what you're saying.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you start by reposting in standard English,
complete with paragraphs, sentences, capital letters where
appropriate, and punctuation. As it is, your post is quite
undecipherable: most of the the words used are from the English
language, but are almost completely meaningless as currently
assembled.

Otherwise, you might as well try here:

You say "I have tried to set the boot settings to start up straight from the
cd drive but it just wont let me boot from the cd." Does that mean your BIOS
doesn't have the option OR it just fails to boot from CD?

Boot up with floppy disk that brother used, then run setup from Home CD. Run
setup and do "Clean Install". This will delete everything on HDD.
If doesn't work, maybe CD is bad.

Can't run Home CD install from within XP Pro. "Is this because i already
have another version running and will i have to delete the proffesional
version first if so how do i do all of this." see above

[dennis thanks for the reply. In answer to your question it fails to
boot from the CD with the BIOS set to boot from the CD Drive. This
particular make of HP laptop doesnt have a floppy disk drive so i dont
have that option available to me. I have tried using both the operating
system disc which it will not install from ( the the one with what looks
but doesnt feel like it is cracked) and i have just tried the system
recovery discs which came with the laptop to be told that these are the
wrong discs for this model of laptop. How fustrating it all is. I cant
think of anything else to do but format the hard disk and then try
reinstalling XP home just incase it is a conflict with it presently
running the professional version. if al else fails then i will just
have to take it back to the shop i bought it from and get them to sort
it out for me

If the CD feels like it has a crack in it, I would not try the installation
from it. First try to borrow a computer and make a copy of the CD. Then
use the copy for installation.
Also, if the restore disks you got with the computer do not work, you need
to resolve this with the shop you bought the computer from.
If you can't boot from the CD, and you do not have a floppy drive, I doubt
you will even be able to format the drive. Windows will not let you format
the active drive while it is running. That would be like asking it to
commit suicide, which it is programmed not to do.

Bruce's comments, while not appreciated, were done because you have a lot of
spelling and grammar errors in your original message, which does make it a
bit hard to follow.

On previous post, "You said brother installed XP with Floppy Drive" So how
did he do that then??????

Your story is getting confusing!!!
Please use periods on sentences as requested before.
