HELP! Recently Installed Windows XP

I recently installed Windows XP (I previously had Windows
ME). All of my programs and files are visible but not
obtainable (the icons next to the filenames and program
names now appear with a white page/red letter which
indicates no program attached,etc.). Also, for example,
Word is there but when I try to open it, it asks to be
reinstalled.
Does anyone know how I can get all my files and programs
to work in XP?

There are usually problems with doing an upgrade install from to XP from
ME. The best thing you can do is format your hard drive and install
clean. Otherwise, start reinstalling your programs.
