Hello,

I have problems to use myTtrend WiFi adapters with my 3 PCs under Win XP
SP1+SP2.

I have One AP Router SMC barricade 2804WBR running in 802.11 b+g mode /
Channel 13 / with WEP encription in 64bits
I'm using the latest TREND drivers downloaded from Trendware site.
I'm using the WiFi Windows Zero configuration on all systems under Win XP
SP2.

PC desktop 1: Win XP Home +SP2 (in an other room than AP/Router - very good
WiFi signal)
======================================================================
Wifi PCI card TREND TEW-423PI with the latest TREND drivers
WEP 64bitsbits

PC desktop 2 : Win XP pro SP1+SP2 (Few meters far from AP/Router, same room)
=============================================================
Wifi PCMCIA/CARDBUS card TREND TEW-421CB (802.11 g+b) with the latest TREND
drivers, in PCI/PCMCIA adapter.
WEP 64bits

Wifi PCMCIA/CARDBUS card ELSA MC-11 (802.11b) in PCI/PCMCIA adapter.
WEP 64bits

Ethernet SMC EZ 10/100 Mbits card

PC Laptop 3: Win XP Pro SP1+SP2 (Few meters far from AP/Router, same room)
=============================================================
Wifi PCMCIA/CARDBUS card TREND TEW-421CB (802.11 g+b) with the latest TREND
drivers, in PCMCIA slot.
WEP 64bits

Wifi PCMCIA/CARDBUS card ELSA MC-11 (802.11b), in PCMCIA slot .
WEP 64bits

Problems:
========

PC Desktop 1 with TEW-423PI works and connects pretty well with good WiFi
signal.

PC Desktop 1 and PC Laptop 3 with TEW-421CB doesn't connect to the
AP/Routeur , the radio connection is OK but it doen't conclude the
connection. Net Stumbler is getting a good signal on each machine, but no
connection...

If I use the ELSA WiFi cards (also present on each system) instead of TREND
cards, the 2 PC's connect very well to the AP/Router and everything is fine.

On the TREND Wifi adapters I checked everything seral times: Channel, SSID,
WEP keys, ... I've been working on that for days now and I can't find why
it's not working properly...

I'm now suspecting some incompatibility between the TREND drivers for
TEW421-CB with Win XP SP2 (I've dowloaded the lattest drvivers version)...
So... can somebody help me to solve this problem ...

Have you tried connecting with no WEP at all? See if it works without WEP.
Sorry, I forgot to state I already did what you recommend.
With or Without WEP activated it's the same result.
My WiFi network is detected and appears in the window but if I press
"connect" it's looping and never connect. (NetStumbler utility is also
detecting my WiFi network with a good noise/signal ratio ....)
In my 2 systems, my ELSA PCMCIA cards in 802.11b work and my TREND PCMCIA
cards in 802.11b/g don't work !!!
Thanks for your interest to my problem.

Ok, lets verify installation of your network.
1) You have your Broadband modem connected to the WAN port on your router.
2) Then you connected a PC to a LAN port on the router and typed 192.168.2.1
and that gives you the login page. type the password and your in.
3)Start the configuration wizard and follow the directions for each step.
4) Then you will enter the advanced Setup.
5) This is were you pick your SSID, Channel, WEP, WAP, Enable DHCP, MAC
FILTERING and many other options. ****For this try disable all encryption
Static IP assigning and filtering and make sure DHCP is Enabled.
6) ****Also make sure the Zone Alarm Pro option is disabled. This option
will block all clients from connecting to the network unless they have Zone
Alarm Pro running on the computers. Remember to hit the apply button after
selecting disable****.
7) Now goto the status section of your router. This will show you what
systems are connected to your router and the DHCP status of each client.

Go turn on your wireless computers. Bootup and log in as normal.

Now go back to the desktop that is logged into your router and refresh the
status page. What does it say?

I'm not using Zone Alarm. I've dusabled the XP firewall and disabled my
Router firewall.
Only DHCP is selected on in my router.
7) Now goto the status section of your router. This will show you what
systems are connected to your router and the DHCP status of each client. No system connected.
Go turn on your wireless computers. Bootup and log in as normal.

status page. What does it say?
Nobody logged in via DHCP.
The WiFi network is detected (both by windows zero config utility and by
NetStumbler4). But still unable to complete connection for this TrendNet
adapter.

In summary:
On my Router:
DHCP ON
Firewall desactivated
No WEP/WPA encription
NO win XP firewall

It doesn't work for the Trend adaptors on 2 computers.
If I do the same with my old ELSA WiFi 802.11b adaptors it works fine.
I don't understand. !!!

Thanks for your advices.
