Help! PC is Slowing / Hanging Many Times Daily!

D

Dave

Greetings!
PC hangs opening MS Word, MS Excel, IE 6, other apps.; Task Mgr will not
close them - PC needs reboot to unhang and open apps. I have rebooted 3
times today! Rebooting drops many settings.
Sometimes I will find that my home page has been reset.
I had a restore point set, but cannot find it. Backup does not work.
Blaster worm did not touch PC, these problems have been ongoing since first
week of use, 3rd week of June '03.

Thanks in advance!

OK, you might want to scan your system for other possible viruses and make
sure your antivirus app has the latest definitions before scanning.

Also, go to Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer,
look for errors that correspond to when the some of these issues occur,
double click the error, the information contained within may give a clue as
to the source of the issue.

Download and run the following:

Ad Aware: www.lavasoftusa.com
SpyBot: http://www.safer-networking.org/

Certainly AdAware is a good choice for you.

TweakNow PowerPack is a fully-integrated suite of utilities that
let you fine-tune every aspect of your computer's operating
system and Web browser. The RAM Idle program manages the
free memory that is available to run Windows programs. It
prevents performance from degrading as you swap files and
programs in and out of memory. The Virtual Desktop program
lets you run as many as four custom-designed desktop
configurations simultaneously, allowing you to tailor your
computer screen to your mood and your work requirements.

And how the blibbins with AdAware stop his system from locking up?! Sounds
like a hardware problem to me.

Your responses certainly don't help when you always have an attitude when
you post something.

Have you tried to see if this happens in safe mode? To get to safe mode, tap
F8 when the computer is starting, then choose it from the list.
Also might want to run a diagnostics on the hardware of the system, as the
memory might be getting too full and needing the cache cleaned, so if this
be the case, it would need the restart.
