HELP! Outlook crashes upon opening

PLEASE HELP!

I wanted to change my email account in Outlook so it would use IMAP instead
of POP3. I went into Data Files to create a new one and made it the default.
But there was no option to make it IMAP and so I tried making another new
data file, but again no option for IMAP vs. POP3. (The account type drop
down is grayed out.)

I only tried creating a new data file because I wasn't sure how my existing
POP3 emails in Outlook would interact with a switch to IMAP. When I created
the new file it gave some kind of warning that my calendars would be moved
that didn't explain what that meant. I am synced via MobileMe to my iPhone
and now I've lost all my calendar appointments and contacts and can't bring
up Outlook to get them back.

There was some kind of problem and Outlook attempted to recover the files
and created a "Recovered..." group of folders. Now, every time I try to go
into Outlook, it says "not responding." I tried running ScanPST. I tried
uninstalling/reinstalling including SP2. No change, except that now it says
"Configuring Outlook Accounts" forever until I click on it and it says not
responding. I tried running Office Diagnostics, but it still says "Not
Responding" while trying to load.

I tried deleting the new PST, but it gives me an error message saying can't
find the PST file, brings up the dialog box and won't let me cancel.

Loading in Safe mode doesn't stop the crashing.

How do I edit the data file settings if I can't bring up Outlook?

imap uses / creates its own data file once the imap mail acount is set up
and it syncs with the imap server
Use the mail applet in the control panel to create a new profile, add your
old data file (pst) then add the imap mail account
