Help on External Data

I have filled a worksheet using Data> External Data> New
Database Query from an Access database.

Information is added to the external Access database
daily, and the properties were set to update the external
database on Excel file open, and every 10 minutes
thereafter.

The sheet updates correctly, bringing in the new records.

I had to make the Excel workbook "shared", to allow
multiple people the ability to add information outside of
the Access data (Not changing the imported data). Once I
made the workbook "shared", the external database update
ceased to function. External data tool bar is greyed out
entirely.

If I turn "shared" off, then the external data update (and
tool bar) works fine again.

This problem is not covered in limitations of shared
workbooks, and I can find nothing that identifies this as
a limitation.

Does anybody know if this is an undocumented limitation of
shared workbooks? Why does this not work?

Help would be appreciated.

Hi
though this is not directly mentiones in the Excel help file the other
limitations indicated that this also does not work (e.g. pivot charts
cannot be updated, object cannot be changed or inserted)
So I think there's no chance for you to get external data updates while
sharing the workbook at the same time.
